As an undergraduate at Mercer University, Dr. Buchanan lettered four years in NCAA Division I baseball. After completing an undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Florida International University, he spent nine years in the United States Army. While in the Army, he earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine among other honors. Following an honorable discharge in 1999, he completed his postgraduate education at the University of Alabama and University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Buchanan worked as a sports medicine physician in Wisconsin before relocating back to the South. Dr. Buchanan specializes in nonsurgical orthopaedics and currently serves as head team physician for Mill Creek High School and assistant team physician for the Gwinnett Gladiators. He provides sports medicine care to high school and college athletes. Dr. Buchanan is a consulting associate for the Duke Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
