Children's supports evidence-based pediatric care and strongly recommends routine childhood vaccinations in accordance with guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and other leading public health organizations.
Vaccines have helped prevent serious diseases, protect vulnerable children, and improve the health of communities for generations. As a pediatric healthcare system, we are committed to providing families with accurate, science-based information that helps them make informed healthcare decisions for their children.
We understand that questions and concerns about vaccinations exist, and we believe those conversations should be met with compassion, respect and trusted medical expertise provided by your child’s pediatrician. Through education, partnership and thoughtful dialogue, we work to help families understand the benefits of vaccination while respecting their role in making healthcare decisions for their children.

Prenatal visits are scheduled consultations during pregnancy to discuss what parents can expect after delivery. It is the foundation for maternal well-being and newborn health. Through education, guidance and personalized support, prenatal counseling can bring expectant parents clarity, comfort and confidence.
Prenatal counseling gives expecting parents the opportunity to prepare for the newborn stage before delivery. These visits focus on preparation rather than treatment. During these visits, our team will:
- Explain how pediatric care works during the first weeks of life.
- Outline what parents can expect after their baby arrives.
- Help you discover how a pediatrician can help you and your baby.
- Answer questions and address any concerns.
Prenatal counseling provides ongoing evaluation of maternal health and fetal development where milestones such as growth, movement and test results are tracked. Our providers will also review your family medical history and discuss health concerns that may influence newborn care.
This proactive approach allows us to provide more personalized guidance to help ensure a smooth transition. It also helps families recognize when something may need closer attention, which can help prevent complications and give parents peace of mind.
The first few weeks at home with a newborn can feel overwhelming. Prenatal counseling helps reduce this stress by giving parents clear information about what to expect.
Prenatal counseling offers a structured opportunity to discuss topics such as feeding routines, sleeping, bathing, vaccinations, common issues (ex. colic, reflux, jaundice), car seat safety and screenings that can help parents make informed choices and feel more prepared.
Pregnancy can be as much of an emotional journey as a physical one. Prenatal counseling acknowledges the stress, excitement and uncertainty that can accompany this stage of life. By offering steady reassurance, our pediatric providers help empower parents to trust their instincts while leaning on medical knowledge for support.
Prenatal counseling also emphasizes communication within the family, encouraging expectant parents to share their feelings, plan ahead and prepare for the changes that come with a growing family.
Prenatal counseling helps strengthen the bond between parent and child before birth. Through conversations about breastfeeding, newborn care, sleep safety and developmental expectations, parents begin to envision their role and responsibilities early.
This preparation promotes smoother transitions after delivery, making the newborn stage less stressful and more rewarding.
For families experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, prenatal counseling offers valuable guidance and planning.
During your prenatal counseling appointment, you will meet with a provider to review your medical history and discuss your concerns. The appointment may include lifestyle changes, diet, medication safety, and a plan for additional screening and follow-up visits. You will also get a few minutes to get your questions answered, discuss birth planning and receive personalized recommendations.
Personalized care can help reduce anxiety and improve communication with you and your medical team. With the right information, you can feel more in control and confident.
If you choose Children's Forsyth-Cumming Pediatrics to serve as your pediatric primary care office, please contact us at 470-566-1160 once your baby is born. We will schedule a newborn visit with one of our pediatricians or nurse practitioners to examine your baby. We like to see newborns for their first visit within two to five days of birth.
We understand changes in behavior can raise questions and concerns for families. If you notice any of the following patterns in your child, they may benefit from early intervention and support.
- Persistent aggression, frequent emotional outbursts or extreme defiance that disrupts home or school
- Ongoing withdrawal from friends or family, significant changes in sleep or appetite, or a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
- Repeated difficulty focusing, impulsive actions that cause harm or intense anxiety that interferes with daily functioning
- Skipping school or seeing a decline in grades
- Stealing, smoking, vaping, using drugs or participating in unlawful behavior
If you have concerns, call our office to schedule a behavioral health evaluation. Our team offers counseling on behavioral management strategies and can coordinate referrals for therapy or additional services when needed.
Early evaluation supports healthier outcomes and can help reduce long-term challenges.
If your child is planning on playing sports this school year, your child’s school will most likely require your child to have a sports physical. School and sports physicals help make sure players are in good health before they play.
School, camp and sports physical forms are completed by one of our providers at the time of your child’s appointment. Please allow enough time to schedule your child’s appointment before the forms are due.
We offer hearing and vision screenings along with blood tests that can check your child’s sugar levels, urine tests to check for bladder or kidney infections, as well as tests for common illnesses like strep throat and flu.
Our providers are affiliated with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's three pediatric hospitals and work closely with Children’s specialists, giving your child access to pediatric care experts in more than 60 different specialties, programs and clinics.
What vaccines does my child need?
Your child will receive most of their childhood vaccines by the time they are 6 years old. Many vaccines are given more than once, at different ages in different combinations. You can download an immunization schedule here.
