Preparing for an Overnight Stay

We know that surgery can be stressful for parents, children and teens. We want your stay to be as easy as possible. The more prepared you are, the more relaxed your family will be.

We have everything your child needs during their stay.  Children’s provides diapers, hospital gowns, and slipper socks. We have breast pumps for breastfeeding mothers but you can bring your own if you prefer. We also provide age appropriate toys video games and you may even see our volunteer dog, Casper, visiting patients.

What you should bring:

Bring your child’s medicine in the prescription bottle. This tells us the exact dose your child is taking at home.

Comfort Items
Children enjoy having clothing and other comfort items from home. You may want to bring:

  • Pacifier
  • Favorite blanket
  • Soothing music
  • Special toy or book
  • Pajamas

For Parents
If your child stays overnight, you are welcome to stay as well. Your child will feel more secure with a parent or family member close by. We suggest you pack a bag for yourself with a pillow, pajamas or any other personal items. Each of our private hospital rooms include:

  • Hide-a-bed sofa
  • Full bathroom*
  • Television
  • Telephone

Room/Food Services
You can eat in our cafeteria or order meals for delivery to your child’s room. You may also bring food and snacks from home. Every floor of the hospital has a:

  • Refrigerator
  • Microwave
  • Coffee maker

Amenities and Services
Each of our locations provides a parent business center, family library, a chapel and more.

*Families in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) may use bathrooms and showers on the second floor. Please ask a staff member for assistance with shower locations and towels.
