What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

An athletic trainer certified with the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) provides a link between an athletic program and the medical community for implementing injury prevention measures, emergency care and injury management.

At Children’s, all of our athletic trainers are BOC certified and licensed in the state of Georgia, and many are athletes themselves. When it comes to caring for kids and teens, the team you choose matters. We provide medical coverage for many local, national and regional events, and for many metro Atlanta schools and club sports affiliates. Our team is trusted to work with individual athletic programs at schools and in the community.

Community Outreach

Our Sports Medicine team is active in the Atlanta youth sports community. The staff leads workshops for coaches, gives pre-participation sports physicals at area schools and provides certified athletic trainers for area high schools and club sports organizations. We also offer educational in-services to physicians and other organizations.

Student Athletic Trainer's Workshop

Each year the Children’s Sports Medicine Program hosts a one-day workshop for high school students who are interested in sports medicine. During this training session, students learn about concussion, heat illness, packing a medical kit, splinting, stretching, taping techniques and the treatment of acute injuries and wound care.
