Pediatric Trauma

  • Children’s at Egleston was named the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in Georgia—the highest ranking of its kind that a hospital can attain, meaning it is the premier site for the evaluation and treatment of children with traumatic injuries. This designation means we have specialists with advanced training in pediatric and critical care available around the clock, along with 24-hour operating rooms and priority status for lab work and X-rays.
  • Children cared for at a pediatric trauma center have lower mortality rates and shorter lengths of stay compared to children cared for at adult trauma centers.
  • We are home to the only Level 1 and 2 pediatric trauma centers in Georgia, and we treat about 60 percent of pediatric trauma patients in the state.

  • Our three Emergency Departments the busiest in the nation, seeing an average of 585 kids a day.
  • In 2012, nearly 24,000 children visited our Emergency Departments for trauma care.

  • Children’s is one of a few pediatric ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) centers in the southeast.
  • The ECMO Center at Children’s has been an ELSO Center of Excellence in Life Support since 2007.
