Introduction

Nitika Gupta, MD, is a pediatric hepatologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She currently serves as Director of the Hepatology Program at Children’s and Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Gupta obtained her medical degree at Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in India before completing her pediatric residency and fellowship training at Emory University School of Medicine. She is board certified in pediatric gastroenterology with a subspecialty board certification in pediatric transplant hepatology.

Dr. Gupta specializes in treating children and adolescents with all types of liver disease and cares for patients pre- and post-liver transplant.

Research & Publications

Dr. Gupta’s research interest lies in understanding the basic mechanisms of steatosis in the liver. Specifically, she is interested in the GLP- 1 receptor and its role in hepatic steatosis, apoptosis and autophagy in the setting of ischemia reperfusion injury. Immune mechanism of steatosis is an evolving area of her laboratory. Additionally, Dr. Gupta is interested in the area of adolescent post-transplant care and transition and solid organ donations.
