Former Patient Returns to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as Nurse

When Averie Olson was just eight years old, she began having severe headaches that became so intense at times that they’d wake her up at night. After years of pain, often missing school, and trips to the pediatrician and neurologist, Averie was ultimately diagnosed her with Moyamoya disease, a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain. She was then referred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Dr. Joshua Chern, Chief of Neurosurgery at Children’s for two brain surgeries.

Years later, as a result of her incredible care, Averie returned to Children’s not as a patient, but as a nurse on the neuro team.
