Introduction

Matthew Ferguson, MD, was born and raised in the small town of Maggie Valley, NC. He attended Davidson College where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He played football for Davidson College and spent two seasons playing for a club team in Deggendorf, Germany before starting medical school. He earned his medical doctorate from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. After completing a pediatrics residency in Birmingham, AL, Dr. Ferguson traveled north to Rochester, MN for his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Mayo Clinic. During this time, he earned a scholarship for international health for his work in Nepal. Upon graduation, he moved to Atlanta, his wife’s hometown, to complete an advanced imaging fellowship at the Children’s Heart Center where he stayed on as faculty. He has been on faculty since 2011, working primarily in the echocardiographic laboratory. He performs all varieties of echocardiography, including transesophageal echo, fetal echo, transthoracic echo, and exercise stress testing. Outside of his work, he maintains a commitment to international missions. His international work has taken him across the globe to Kenya, Nepal, Bolivia, and Mongolia.
