Introduction

Michelle Tutmaher, DO, is a board-certified child neurologist with specialized expertise in pediatric migraine, tension headache, idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), concussion and other headache disorders, as well as developmental delay, general neurology, and medical education. She currently serves as a Pediatric Neurologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine, with a focus on multidisciplinary care, patient-centered teaching, and innovation in medical education.

Dr. Tutmaher earned her medical degree from Kansas City University and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center, followed by a child neurology residency at Emory University. She has experience providing comprehensive care in outpatient and inpatient neurology settings, including intensive care units and specialized clinics for complex headache, balance and concussion disorders.

Her clinical and academic interests lie at the intersection of headache medicine, neuro-education and collaborative care models. An accomplished educator and curriculum developer, she has mentored learners across all levels of training and has founded faculty development and mentorship initiatives at multiple institutions.

Dr. Tutmaher is an active contributor to the field through peer-reviewed publications, national presentations and editorial board service. She has presented her work at major meetings, including the American Academy of Neurology, the Child Neurology Society and the Society of Pediatric Psychology.

Committed to improving access to neurological care, Dr. Tutmaher has participated in community outreach efforts such as the Headache ECHO Program and has served as a sub-investigator in clinical trials related to pediatric migraine therapies.

Dr. Tutmaher's research focuses on advancing evidence-based treatments for pediatric migraine through participation in clinical trials and studies examining disease risk factors and interplay of risk factors on disease. She is also actively involved in graduate medical education research, specifically through curriculum development.
