Introduction
Matt Hawkins, MD, is a board-certified Interventional Radiologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and a Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. He currently serves as Medical Director of Interventional Radiology and the Vascular Anomalies Clinic at Children’s. As an interventional radiologist, Dr. Hawkins specializes in the treatment of vascular malformations, pediatric renovascular hypertension and venous thromboembolic disease. Dr. Hawkins’ non-clinical interests include health policy, economics and performance improvement, specifically the healthcare challenges where these disciplines intersect.
Dr. Hawkins earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Following medical school, he completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology at the University of Cincinnati. He then completed a diagnostic pediatric radiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center followed by a fellowship in vascular interventional radiology at the University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hawkins has been an active volunteer within many radiology organizations. He currently serves as the Health Policy and Economics Councilor for the Society of Interventional Radiology and assistant editor for the Journal of the American College of Radiology. He has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 columns in radiology journals. Additionally, he has been an invited speaker at more than 220 national and international conferences and events.
