Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Ranked Among Top 100 Employers for Eighth Year in a Row by FORTUNE Magazine

ATLANTA (January 18, 2013) – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has been ranked among FORTUNE magazine’s elite list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America.  It is the eighth consecutive time the not-for-profit pediatric health care system has been named to the list.  Landing at No. 46, Children’s is the only hospital in Georgia to appear on the list, Children’s is among just three companies with headquarters in Georgia and is one of only two pediatric hospitals to make the list. Children’s stands alongside well-known and respected companies, including Aflac, Google, Zappos and American Express.

Children’s operates three hospital campuses, including Children’s at Egleston, Children’s at Hughes Spalding and Children’s at Scottish Rite, as well as 17 neighborhood locations. Children’s puts a primary focus on employees, so it makes sense that the organization was ranked on a list that highlights specialty areas such as health care, child care and work-life success.

“This wonderful ranking really does honor our employees because no one is more dedicated, passionate and committed to providing the highest level of care to kids than they are,” said Linda Matzigkeit, Chief Administrative Officer at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “We work hard every day to arm our workforce with the personal support and professional tools they need to provide excellent clinical care for our patients. Their dedication epitomizes the culture that makes Children’s a great place to work.”

Children’s constantly works to understand and deliver on its workforce's diverse needs, enabling employees to be successful and continue to serve the not-for-profit organization. In addition to traditional benefits, Children’s offers many unique programs, including an internal wellness program called Strong4Life through which employees collectively have lost more than 54,000 pounds and walked more than four billion steps since the program’s launch in June 2008. Since 2009, Children’s began giving every employee who obtained a Strong4Life health risk appraisal and biometric screening a discount on health care premiums. In addition, the wellness program introduces new ways to stay healthy each year and build excitement and participation within the programs. Some of these innovative programs included a family wellness program that offered health coaching for the entire family, a ‘biggest loser’ competition with team competitions, videos and employee voting and 15 minute stress release, pre and post natal  fitness classes for employees.

To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America: 259 firms participated in this year’s survey. More than 277,000 employees at those companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. After evaluations are completed, if news about a company comes to light that may significantly damage employees’ faith in management, we may exclude it from the list. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. For more information on how to apply, visit:
