Some of the approximately 1,200 hospital volunteers, known as "Friends," work behind the scenes in hospital administrative support. Others assist families and hospital visitors with excellent customer service. Most volunteers have the opportunity to interact with hospital patients every day—rocking babies, helping with schoolwork, delivering videos and books, hosting special events and working in our popular gift shops among their many contributions.
Children's offers many hospital volunteer opportunites for a variety of ages and groups:
- Adult Volunteers
The adult program is for individuals 18 years of age and older who are not currently enrolled in college.
- College Volunteers
Each college program session spans 12 weeks during the fall and spring semesters.
The VolunTEEN program is perfect for high school students ages 15-18 looking for a rewarding way to spend part of their summer.
- Future Healthcare Professionals
Future Healthcare Professionals is an educational program for high school students that provides an insight into a variety of healthcare professions, both clinical and non clinical. Information for the 2014-2015 program will be available in May 2014.
- Med Kids
Summer opportunity for middle school students (6th, 7th and 8th grade) who are interested in learning more about pediatric healthcare professions. Students attend a 3-day exploration in which they interact with healthcare professionals and learn about the medical field through speakers/presentations, hands-on simulations and a tour of the CDC. Applications are available in April each year for upcoming summer program.
- Young Friends
The Young Friends Program for kids in K-5th grade is a great way for our youngest volunteers to begin their service to Children's.
- Family Volunteer Day
Family Volunteer Day provides families in the community with the opportunity to learn about the patients and families we serve at Children's while working on service projects that benefit them.
- Hospital Engagement Opportunities
Opportunity for Children's employees, community groups or corporate groups to sponsor a hospital event.
- Administrative Volunteers
We also need volunteers behind the scenes to work within various departments performing organizational tasks, administrative duties and providing support.
- Neighborhood Locations
The Children's neighborhood locations need help, too! Various duties include customer service and administrative tasks.
- Donations & Activities
More of a one-time volunteer opportunity, you can donate much-needed items or host an acitivity in the hospital.
