Pediatric Technology Center
For more than two decades, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Georgia Institute of Technology have worked together to improve the health and care of young people. The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Technology Center at Georgia Tech (PTC) brings clinical experts from Children’s together with Georgia Tech scientists and engineers to develop technological solutions to problems in pediatric healthcare.
The PTC provides extraordinary opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in pediatrics, creating breakthrough discoveries that enhance the lives of children and young adults. The innovations in research and development made possible by the PTC will improve mental and physical health and well-being for young people in Georgia and beyond, as new clinical processes and devices are brought to market that will increase the accessibility, efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery in hospitals and in communities that need it most.
The PTC advances pediatric innovation through three strategic pillars that bring together Children’s and Georgia Tech expertise to address unmet healthcare needs and accelerate the translation of breakthrough technologies into clinical care:
This pillar harnesses machine learning, artificial intelligence and data science to improve pediatric health through smarter clinical operations and healthcare systems. It focuses on developing data infrastructure, predictive analytics and decision-support tools that enhance healthcare delivery, streamline workflows and support system-level decision-making.
This pillar harnesses software technologies to improve pediatric health by expanding access to care and enhancing patient and family engagement. It focuses on developing patient-centered tools that support the whole child, including families, caregivers and care environments, while addressing barriers to healthcare access. Initial areas of emphasis include behavioral health and improving healthcare accessibility for all children.
This pillar harnesses engineering and physical technologies to improve pediatric health through innovative devices and hardware-enabled solutions. It focuses on developing sensing systems, robotics, medical devices and point-of-care technologies that enhance diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and care delivery for children. By combining clinical insight with engineering expertise, the pillar advances practical, scalable solutions.
