2022 Sickle Cell Education Day: Shining a Light on Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle Cell Education Day
Our annual Sickle Cell Disease Education Day and Awareness Fair is an opportunity for patients and families of those with sickle cell disease to gather and learn more about new updates in sickle cell disease treatments, as well as to spread awareness and increase community engagement. Our theme this year is "Shining a Light on Sickle Cell Disease" and we will open up with a panel discussion on how we can best support sickle cell disease advocacy efforts, raise awareness, and increase community engagement. Additionally, we will have sessions on the following:
- New medications for sickle cell disease
- Bone marrow transplant and gene therapy
- New areas of research in sickle cell disease
- Transfusion medicine
- Pain management, including complementary and alternative therapies
- Navigating the school system as a student or parent of a child with sickle cell disease
We will also have raffles, games, music, giveaways, and lots of fun activities for the kids courtesy of Children's Child Life Specialists, Music Therapists, and volunteers from Georgia Tech. Lunch will be generously provided by Chick-Fil-A.
We want to hear about how you shine your light on sickle cell disease, whether you express it through essay-writing, poetry or art. Submit entries by Sunday, Sept. 18, to John Fisher. Winners of the contest will be announced during the Sickle Cell Disease Education Day event.
Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
