Zachary Eugene West, MD

Zachary West, MD, is a Pediatric Cardiologist and the Director of Informatics and Analytics at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Cardiology. Dr. West completed his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine where he developed expertise in caring for children with a wide range of congenital and acquired heart diseases across both inpatient and outpatient settings. In his current role, he combines direct patient care with a focus on leveraging data and technology to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of pediatric cardiac care.

As Director of Informatics and Analytics, Dr. West leads initiatives to integrate electronic health record data, clinical registries, and advanced analytics to support multicenter research and quality improvement. His work centers on developing and implementing clinical decision support tools that help identify high-risk patients, guide timely interventions, and reduce preventable deterioration and emergency transfers. He collaborates closely with national registries and partner institutions to automate data abstraction, streamline research workflows, and translate real-time data into actionable insights at the bedside.

Dr. West’s research interests include informatics-driven risk prediction, optimization of care pathways in pediatric cardiology, and the use of big data to better understand social and clinical factors that influence outcomes in children with heart disease. He is actively involved in multicenter collaborative studies and serves on committees focused on harnessing health information technology to improve pediatric cardiac outcomes. Through this work, he aims to build a learning health system in which every patient encounter contributes to better care for the next child.
