Introduction

Originally from Houston, Texas, Stephanie Jernigan, MD, has made Atlanta her home for more than 20 years. She's been a practicing pediatric nephrologist since 1999 after training in pediatrics at University of Alabama at Birmingham and in pediatric nephrology at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Her medical career has included working in general pediatrics and private practice pediatric nephrology in Atlanta before joining Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta full time in 2012.

Dr. Jernigan has been active in the dialysis and transplant program at Children’s since starting her career and now serves as the Medical Director of Dialysis for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. A lifelong believer in camp programs, she also serves as Medical Director of Camp Independence, a summer and weekend camp for children who have had solid organ transplants or kidney disease.

Outside of her nephrology practice, Dr. Jernigan has served Children’s in leadership roles including Medical Staff President and Chief of Medicine of the medical service line. She is currently Co-Chief of Medicine and Campus Medical Director of Egleston hospital. Dr. Jernigan also has an interest in advocacy, particularly as it pertains to her patients on dialysis and with renal transplants.
