Diving isn’t just a sport, it’s an art. Similar to gymnastics, divers work to master skills such as agility, flexibility, strength and acrobatics, to appear graceful and effortless in their movements. This individual sport requires intense concentration and attention to detail. To keep divers making a splash with the judges, the Children’s Sports Medicine Program offers a few guidelines to help with training, nutrition, safety and avoid common injuries.
The United States has enjoyed great Olympic success in diving, capturing 47 of 90 gold medals (52 percent), since the sport’s inception in 1904.
