Women’s lacrosse is growing in popularity. Unlike men’s lacrosse, which originated from ice hockey, women’s lacrosse resembles field hockey with contact prohibited between players. This difference is illustrated in the different equipment worn by men and women. Male players wear helmets with face masks, mouth guards, shoulder pads, padded gloves and pads for the chest, arms and elbows. By contrast, females wear only eye shields and mouth guards.
