ATLANTA (Dec. 9, 2019) – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta announced today that the first wave of staff members has moved into the first administrative office building at the new Support Center alongside the Northeast Expressway. The Support Center, which will include two support buildings with the second building to be completed in 2020, is part of Children’s North Druid Hills campus at the corner of I-85 and North Druid Hills Road. When the two buildings are complete, all of the Children’s support staff will be housed together, creating new opportunities for efficiency and collaboration. Staff will continue to move into The Support Center gradually over the next several months.

In March 2018, Children’s announced that the remediation and demolition of the previous Children’s office buildings at 1577 Northeast Expressway had begun, and the construction of the new office buildings. Construction of the new Support Center was a necessary first step to make room for the new hospital, which is being built on the site of the Children’s previous administrative office buildings.

The Support Center includes two administrative buildings and an associated parking deck and will provide the staff for Children’s a workplace with open floorplans and a variety of common amenities, including staff dining, a coffee shop, a fitness center, employee health clinic and outdoor work, meeting and dining spaces. Having all of the Children’s staff in one central location creates efficiencies in how we serve our patients, allowing employees the dedicated resources and technology to support our patients, families and physicians. Once the campus is complete, employees will be able to easily walk to other areas of the campus, including the new hospital and Center for Advanced Pediatrics.

“The Support Center provides a best-in-class workplace that allows us to attract and retain top talent, which will in turn allow our staff to continue providing the best care to our patients and families,” said Linda Matzigkeit, Chief Administrative Officer of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “This is a crucial milestone in our North Druid Hills campus planning and allows us to begin construction on a new pediatric hospital that will enable us to serve Georgia’s children for decades to come.”

Completion of The Support Center will allow the preparation and construction of the new hospital to begin in 2020. The hospital is on track to open and begin serving patients and families starting in 2025. The two support buildings were completed in lockstep with initial investments Children’s is making to improve traffic and transportation in the surrounding area.
