Everything you need to know before, during and after your child's surgery at a Children's location:
Every parent has questions about their child's surgery. Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
There are many ways parents can help make a surgical visit easier for their child.
There will be lots of activity–both at home and when you arrive. The more you plan ahead, the fewer surprises there will be.
Check in by signing your child's name at the receptionist's desk. You will be given directions as to where you should wait for the doctor or nurse.
The best way to comfort your child is with quiet words and gentle touches. Most children will probably be somewhat uncomfortable. They may feel sick to their stomachs from the anesthesia. They may be feeling pain that requires medicine.
When you get ready to go home, we will give you an updated copy of the list of medicines that we made. It will include anything new that your child’s doctor orders.
Our goal at Children’s is to provide the safest possible surgical care for all of our patients.
Our pediatric surgeons are highly specialized and trained to deliver the best possible care. The surgery team is led by Mark Wulkan, M.D., Surgeon-in-Chief.
