Mekhi was born July 26, 2005. We were told he only had a cleft palate.
We were referred to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to meet with the feeding team Aug. 4. In the meeting, Jessica in the medical office building (MOB) asked us to feed Mekhi.
Within minutes, we were sent straight over to Scottish Rite. Mekhi was aspirating while he was eating. We were so clueless. He was in the NICU for three months. He has two rare genetic syndromes, Joubert syndrome and Pierre Robin syndrome. We were told he may not make it to see his first birthday.
But with the many wonderful doctors in Atlanta and the grace of God, he is now 10. He is still non verbal and has G-tube, but he just started walking and he will continue to go up. He is determined to overcome any challenge.
Thank you, CHOA!
When I say I love each of you, that's an understatement..
He would not be here if not for the great, knowledgeable people there.
