Isokinetic testing is a method of strength training designed primarily for post-operative patients. With traditional strength training, an athlete lifts a set amount of weight. With isokinetic strength training, the amount of weight lifted varies, depending on how much effort the athlete puts forth.
During isokinetic testing, your child's physical therapist will test both the non-surgical leg and the surgical leg to determine how much strength training is still needed in order for an athlete's strength to be even in both legs, or close to even. Certain criteria must be met in order for an athlete to be allowed to return to playing a sport.
Isokinetic testing is available at Children’s at Hamilton Mill. Call 404-785-4260 for more information.
