Advocates for Child Abuse and Neglect in Georgia
Did you know there were 34,540 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect in Georgia in 2007? According to Georgia’s Protective Services Data System, of the children involved in those child abuse and neglect cases:
- 83 percent experienced neglect
- 10 percent were physically abused
- 4 percent were sexually abused
- 2 percent were emotionally abused
- Less than 1 percent was classified as other
These numbers show the need for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Child Protection Center, which promotes the safety and well-being of children through advocacy in the community and the identification, assessment and prevention of child abuse.
A National Leader
Recognized at a state and national level as a child advocacy center for child abuse and neglect, the Child Protection Center located on the Children's at Scottish Rite campus provides forensic medical evaluations and conducts interviews of suspected victims of child abuse throughout Georgia. We are:
- Accredited by the National Children’s Alliance
- A full member of Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia and the National Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers
What is a Child Protection Center?
The Children’s Child Protection Center provides services in a safe, child-friendly environment by a team of professionals with extensive pediatric experience. Services include:
