Services available at Children’s at Scottish Rite
At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, we recognize how important it is for a child
to develop good communication skills early on so he is able to interact with others.
However, there are many medical conditions that can contribute to a child’s inability
to communicate effectively. Children with difficult to diagnose speech, voice
and resonance disorders are referred to our Speech Pathology Laboratory. These
problems include:

Hypernasality
- Hyponasality
- Hoarseness
- Unclear speech
Our specialists see children with congenital and acquired speech disorders associated
with a variety of conditions, including:
The specialists of the Speech Pathology Laboratory work with plastic surgeons
and dental specialists for appropriate surgical and prosthetic management of hypernasality.
We offer unique computerized pressure flow nasometry and acoustic diagnostics
and imaging services including fluoroscopy, radiographs, endoscopy and stroboscopy.
After diagnosis at the Speech Pathology Laboratory, children are referred to
plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, orthodontists, pediatric dentists and other
specialists as appropriate for management care. Our specialists understand the
unique needs of children and work with patients and families to develop the best
possible treatment plan.
