Pediatric Social Work Jobs
Why Children's?
At Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, social workers are important members of the healthcare team. They assess families’ strengths, resources and coping skills in order to identify psychosocial issues that may impact a family’s adjustment to their child’s illness or injury. Social workers at Children’s also play an integral role in the hospital’s Child Protection Team. They serve as a liaison between the staff and other agencies for all suspected child abuse and neglect cases.
Qualifications
Medical social workers at Children’s have earned a master’s degree in an accredited Social Work program and have received specialized training focused on issues involving children and families. Social workers are trained to look beyond the medical diagnosis in order to identify cultural, psychosocial and emotional factors affecting the patient’s course of medical treatment.
Social workers help:
- Support families as they learn to cope with their child’s illness or injury

- Coordinate patient care conferences between families and members of the healthcare team
- Assess for child protection concerns
- Collaborate with the medical team to identify barriers related to discharge
