Medicaid

Medicaid is a state medical assistance program that covers most costs for hospital stays, clinic visits and medicines. There are some procedures or exams not covered by Medicaid and some must be pre-approved. Some Medicaid programs are based on family income and others are based on medical needs. You may be able to get coverage for medical services that occur three months prior to the month your child becomes eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid may be able to pay for:

  • Doctor and hospital bills
  • Up to five prescriptions a month
  • Physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • Adaptive equipment

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has an onsite Medicaid office located on the first floor of Children’s at Egleston and Children’s at Scottish Rite. A Dekalb or Fulton county case manager staffs each office.
