Safe Kids Georgia

Since 1991, Safe Kids Georgia, and its local coalitions, have distributed child safety equipment and educational information to raise awareness about injury prevention.

Along with county- and community-based organizations that include firefighters, law enforcement officers, health educators, parents and other community members, Safe Kids Georgia works to eliminate the top six preventable killers of children age 14 and younger:
  • Motor vehicle crashes (including bicycle and pedestrian)
  • Drownings
  • Fire/burns
  • Poisonings/chokings
  • Falls
  • Unintentional shootings

To help educate the public about injury prevention, Safe Kids Georgia and its coalitions host a variety of community programs which may include:
  • Bike rodeos
  • Car seat checks
  • Smoke alarm campaigns
  • Distribution of safety equipment and safety information
  • Fundraising and grant writing to obtain child safety equipment for families in financial need or funding support program development and implementation
In 1993, Safe Kids coalition members rallied statewide to see the passage of mandatory helmet legislation which benefits all Georgia children.

Today, Safe Kids Georgia supports 25 coalitions across the state and has been recognized as a model prototype for future statewide coalitions.
