Wrestling

With origins in ancient Greece and Rome, wrestling remains a popular sport today. More than 30 percent of boys playing sports in the United States are wrestling, and there are more than 270,000 high school wrestlers throughout the country. One of the reasons wrestling is popular is because multiple weight classes allow competitors of all sizes to participate.

Wrestling is a unique sport in that it requires a combination of strength, technique, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness at the highest levels. Wrestling produces some of the overall fittest athletes in the world. Talent can make a wrestler good, but persistent training to improve endurance and technique is needed to make a wrestler great. Following some training techniques, nutrition basics and safety tips will keep young athletes healthy and ready for competition and help to avoid injuries
