Visitor Guide
Children's is dedicated to making your hospital experience a pleasant one. We’re here to answer your questions and ease your mind—whether you’re looking for directions, wondering where to park or curious about what to do before, during or after your visit to our children's hospital.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
- Your child’s Social Security number and up-to-date insurance information
- A list of all medicines your child is taking or the actual medicine bottles—don’t forget to make note of any refills your child needs
- The phone number of the pharmacy you use
- Contact information for your referring doctor and/or pediatrician
- A lunch or snack if you expect to be at the clinic for many hours
- Videos or DVDs for your child to watch while receiving treatment
Clinic Check-In
When you arrive at the clinic, sign your child’s name at the reception desk. You may be asked to fill out some forms and confirm your address and phone number. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will stay for the entire visit.
You will be seated in the waiting room until your child’s name is called. A patient care technician will bring you to a room, where your child is initially assessed.
Caring for Your Child
There are many people who care for your child while he/she is being treated at the Aflac Cancer Center. Each patient will be assigned a multidisciplinary, disease-based team that will recommend a personalized treatment plan.
Having a Procedure
If your child needs to have a procedure (such as a bone marrow aspirate or lumbar puncture), you will go to a procedure room after your child is examined. If your child needs sedation or anesthesia for the procedure, he/she should not eat solid foods for six hours but may drink clear liquids up to two hours before the procedure.
Visitor/Sibling Guidelines
Siblings and other family members may come to your child’s clinic visits. For the safety of our patients, we ask that sick siblings and other visitors do not come to the clinic. Siblings and other visitors are not allowed in the infusion room.
