Diabetes
More than 16 million Americans have diabetes, including about one in every 300 to 500 children. Every day, young people with diabetes go to school, play sports, have friends and do pretty much everything they did before they found out they had diabetes. Adults with diabetes have jobs, children, husbands, wives and friends, just like other adults.
Diabetes affects not only the young people who have the disease, but also their families and friends. Mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters might need to adjust their routines. When families understand what needs to be done to manage diabetes, it's much easier to learn how to live with it.
