Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Ranked Among Top 100 Employers for Fifth Year in a Row by FORTUNE Magazine
Children's is one of only three companies on the list with headquarters in Georgia and the only health care system in Georgia to be featured
ATLANTA — (January 21, 2010) — Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has been ranked among FORTUNE magazine’s elite list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America. It is the fifth consecutive time the not-for-profit pediatric health care system has been named to the list. Children’s is one of only three companies on the list with headquarters in Georgia and the only health care system in Georgia to be featured. Children’s placed ninth in a sub-category for job growth and earned special recognition for being a top company for women, placing seventh in a sub-category for percentage of women.
“We are honored to be included for the fifth year in a row among a listing of such prestigious companies,” said Donna Hyland, president and chief executive officer of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “It is a testament to the commitment every employee at Children’s has to provide excellent clinical care for Georgia’s children in addition to focusing on research, teaching and wellness initiatives in order to enhance the lives of our patients. Their dedication epitomizes the culture that makes Children’s a great place to work.”
Children’s operates three hospital campuses, including Children’s at Egleston, Children’s at Hughes Spalding and Children’s at Scottish Rite, as well as 16 neighborhood locations. Children’s puts a primary focus on employees so it makes sense that the organization was ranked on a list that highlights specialty areas such as health care, child care and Work-life balance. The magazine cited Children’s as having a 13% job growth in 2009.
“We work hard to be attentive to the needs of all of our employees and support the variety of personal and professional goals they have in life,” said Linda Matzigkeit, senior vice president, strategic planning and human resources at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “We know our employees are the most important driver of our organization’s success, and ultimately, we are helping our patients and their families by taking care of the caregivers.”
Children’s constantly works to understand and deliver on its workforce's diverse needs, enabling employees to be successful and continue to serve the not-for-profit organization. In addition to traditional benefits, Children’s offers many unique programs, including a wellness program called Strong4Life where employees have collectively lost more than 18,000 pounds and logged more than 1 billion pedometer steps since the program’s launch in June 2008. In 2009, Children’s also decided to give every employee who obtained a Strong4Life Health Assessment a discount on 2010 health care premiums.
To pick the 100 Best Companies, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring, communication, and diversity.
