Caring for Childhood Brain Disorders
The magic of a child’s mind is extraordinary. At Children’s, we recognize that for the one in five children with disorders of brain development and function, there are unique challenges to be met. These children may struggle with behavior, emotion, learning, language, development, sensation and movement.
The Children’s Neurosciences program provides comprehensive care for children with brain disorders, such as epilepsy and brain tumors. Our neurosciences team includes neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropsychologists, and neurophysiology social workers working together to continue to provide quality care to our patients. In fact, Children's had the lowest neurosurgical shunt revision rate in a 2008 study involving 32 hospitals in the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database.*
As the highest volume center in the country for neurosurgery and inpatient neurology*, we know that caring for childhood brain disorders requires a well rounded approach. That’s what Children’s offers as we work to provide the best quality care for young patients.
