Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIRU)

The Children's Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIRU) knows what it takes to rebuild the everyday skills that matter most. To address patients’ needs after a traumatic and life-changing injury or illness, physicians, nurses, therapists and other staff provide rehabilitation in an inpatient setting seven days a week. In addition, we offer music therapy, recreational therapy, child life and education/academic programs for school re-entry. Treatment involves the whole family to heal the physical and emotional needs of every child, teen and young adult.

When a patient has achieved their functional goals and is medically stable, Children’s offers several options for continued care following discharge from the CIRU. Many discharged patients continue receiving rehabilitative care at the Children’s Day Rehabilitation Program to encourage further functional gains and transition patients to prior activities.
