On track to enter a military academy, seventeen-year-old James was required to undergo a physical.
Following the routine check-up, James’ labs revealed he had severe anemia and he was rushed to Children’s. He was diagnosed with chronic renal insufficiency that would ultimately lead to kidney failure and the need for dialysis and a kidney transplant.
Immediately his family began seeking a donor match. James’ mom was cleared as a match, and soon after they underwent life changing and saving surgery.
James and his family had no idea James would be making Children’s history with his transplant. James was the milestone 400th kidney transplant performed at Children's.
