Safety

  • Know basic first aid.
  • Wear appropriate clothing, no jewelry, pull hair back and do not wear socks.
  • Keep a well-stocked first-aid kit in the gym for minor cuts and bruises.
  • Have a cooler of ice available to treat any injuries.
  • Avoid using heat for the first 72 hours after injury.
  • Take a CPR class.
  • Know when to call 911.
  • Do not move a gymnast who suffers a head or neck injury.
  • Seek immediate medical attention for any athlete who loses consciousness.
  • Notify parents of any injuries their child has sustained.
  • Consult a Certified Athletic Trainer or medical doctor when necessary. 
  • Inspect equipment regularly. Make sure all apparatus are secure, stable and free of defects. Understand how to properly establish and maintain a landing pit.
  • Use wrist and ankle supports to decrease the wear and tear of daily training.
