How to Apply for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program

Prerequisites for Fellowship

In order to be considered for the Fellowship program with the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, an applicant must have completed an accredited three-year pediatric residency in North America by the beginning of the program.

To Apply

The Afac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service Fellowship program will be using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to process all fellowship applications.  

  • Visit the ERAS web site and select "MyERAS"
  • Remember your Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) ID and self-created password for future access to MyERAS

Application Requirements Checklist

  • Curriculum vitae, including academic honors, membership in organizations, research experience and extracurricular activities
  • Three letters of recommendation (All letters of recommendation should be mailed directly to the address given below.)
    • Faculty member from Division of Hematology/Oncology
    • Faculty resident advisor or residency program director
    • A professional of your choosing (if significant research involvement, letter from research mentor)
  • Copy of dean’s letter and evaluation (should be mailed directly to the address given below)
  • Medical school transcript (should be mailed directly to the address given below)
  • Personal statement (including a description of previous research and clinical experience, reason for interest in a career in pediatric hematology/oncology and your career goals for the next five years)
  • Copies of United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, Step 1 and Step 2 only
  • Immigration visa copy (if applicable)
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Mediacal Graduates (ECFMG) certificate (if applicable)
  • Passport style photograph

Application Timeline and Selection Procedure

July 1, 2011  

ERAS web site opens to residents to begin building their applications.

September 1, 2011

Residents can access MyERAS to upload applications to transmit to the ERAS Post Office.

December 1, 2011

Fellowship programs can contact the ERAS Post Office to download applications. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for the selection of first year fellows. Applicants apply directly to the division and register with the NRMP. Our program code is: 327-12-21-041.

Mid-December 2011 to January 1, 2012  Interviews begin for four positions into the July 1, 2013 fellowship class. 

April 1, 2012

Interviews end.

April 18, 2012

NRMP rank list closes.

May 2, 2012

Match day.
