Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Opens Neighborhood Location in The Avenue Forsyth
CUMMING, Ga. (June 1, 2011)—Starting today, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will begin treating patients at its neighborhood location at The Avenue Forsyth in Cumming, Ga. The new, 20,000-square-foot space is Children’s northernmost location and provides outpatient services, including immediate care, rehabilitation, sports medicine, orthotics and prosthetics, X-ray and laboratory services. The location is also home to pediatric specialists for orthopaedics, hand and upper extremity, general surgery, allergy and asthma, otolaryngology (ENT) and ophthalmology.
With 118,000 pediatric residents and a projected growth rate double that of Atlanta, expansion into Forsyth County was a natural fit for Children’s, which is already one of the largest pediatric providers in the United States. Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth is one of 17 neighborhood locations in the Children’s System, which also includes three hospitals—Children’s at Egleston, Children’s at Hughes Spalding and Children’s at Scottish Rite—and the Marcus Autism Center. Located off Peachtree Parkway, the new location will also serve families in Cherokee, Dawson, Gwinnett, Hall and Lumpkin counties.
“Whether you’re the parent of a high school athlete or a toddler with the flu, you’ll find staff at Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth with years of extra training and age-based treatments to treat the full range of pediatric health issues,” said Linda Cole, vice president of ambulatory services at Children’s and Forsyth County resident who led the implementation of the new location. “In choosing The Avenue Forsyth for this location, our goal was to provide parents in Forsyth County and surrounding areas immediate access to advanced pediatric care. The enthusiastic welcome we’ve received has only increased our excitement about calling Forsyth County home.”
From physicians and technologists who have years of pediatric training to child-sized blood pressure cuffs and new investments like the STARscanner to treat young patients with plagiocephaly (or flattening of the head), everything in the facility was designed to help children from infancy through age 21. With extended hours and 15 exam rooms in its Immediate Care Center, Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth was designed to ensure shorter wait times. The space also includes a rock climbing wall and several specialized gyms, including a sensory gym with a pediatric zip line and swings.
Children’s, which was named by FORTUNE magazine as one of America’s 100 Best Companies to Work For, is the 10th largest employer in the state of Georgia. Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth has welcomed 40 staff members.
Children’s Healthcare of Forsyth is located at 410 Peachtree Parkway in Suite 300 of The Avenue Forsyth. Walk-in patients are welcome from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. For more information, visit www.choa.org/forsyth or call 404-785-3100.
